- Discussion - Till has set up GSoC projects page - forwarded out to SC list and others - Still looking for mentors - Decided to keep all projects listed for now - Leave them all on the list - encourages Google to choose that mentoring organization as an organization for support - Can narrow them down laterACTION: All to find IPP Everywhere printers that could be contributed to OP for development purposes (may not need IPP Everywhere but they should implement the IPP features needed for the GSoC project)
- Discussion - Paul proposed that he attend a DoD NIST Industry 3Di PDF TDP Workshop related to the 3DPDF outreach effort - Smith / Ira / Alan approved his travel to attend this - Could be very valuable because of the ISO and ASTM 3D projects - Both ISO TC 130 and 3DPDF are deciding what to do and what / when Paul can present in that meeting
- Discussion - First ever P3030 meeting was 1 hour (only 3 attendees, although 15 had signed up to attend) - Paul presented the PWG slide set - Yu (P3030 chair) has an interest in possibly trying to coordinate having the IEEE Consumer 3D Printing Working Group be a third sponsoring organization of the upcoming PWG / OpenPrinting April F2F meeting. - If we were able to add a P3030 meeting element to the proceedings, we wonder whether we might be able to get Microsoft to send a representative to the meeting? - Sounds like a good idea! - Smith to follow up - Minutes from first P3030 meeting? - Delay of 60-90 days probably - Follow up teleconferences? - Yu has to schedule additional meetings now as per IEEE requirements - What is the typical IEEE specification development process? - Once you officially "start" the IEEE rules now have to be followed - Group has ties to CEMACTION: Smith to check with Yu / Paul on anticipated P3030 attendance and duration (half day? whole day?) and factor that into April 2018 F2F planning
- Discussion - Smith posted an agenda - Smith put out a preliminary slide set - Plenary slides TBD
- Discussion - Keep proposed dates (04/24/18 to 04/26/18) in Bay Area in California - Selecting a space - Apple said they could not host - Ricoh said they could host but it might be awkward - Smith looking into PWG hosted spaces - Wild Palms Hotel - Jessica (ISTO) also researching alternatives
- Discussion - Did the PWG ever make a decision about keep IEEE 1284 as an active standard? - It will need someone (IEEE Standards Association member) to chair at least a zero change revision before 2018 year end. - What is the scope? What is still valuable? - 1284 Device ID - In IEEE 1284-2000 (base standard) - Referenced by PWG in IPP (PWG 5107.2) and in Printer MIB v2 (RFC 3805) - Used by legacy driver matching logic for non-IPP transports - IEEE 1284 is a multi-part standard - IEEE 1284-2000 Standard Signaling Method for a Bidirectional Parallel Peripheral Interface for Personal Computers - will expire in 2021 - defines Device ID - IEEE 1284.1-1997 Standard for Information Technology - Transport Independent Printer/System Interface (TIP/SI) - aka NPAP - will expire in 2018 - PWG does NOT want to renew - IEEE 1284.3-2000 Standard for Interface and Protocol Extensions to IEEE Std 1284 Compliant Peripherals and Host Adapters - withdrawn in 2006 - IEEE 1284.4-2000 Standard for Data Delivery and Logical Channels for IEEE Std 1284 Interfaces - withdrawn in 2006 - Volunteers for IEEE 1284 renewal committee - Paul, Bill, Smith, Ira - https://standards.ieee.org/develop/wg/1284.htmlACTION: Smith to check with Don Wright about scope of IEEE 1284 request?
