(5) PWG Process 4.0 - Status (Smith)

- Discussion
  - Issue: Should we work on defining a PWG Process with accommodations for a time when the 
    staffing and engagement at the PWG is lower than it is today? e.g. "PWG Maintenance Mode"
    - Ira: Defining a "PWG Maintenance Mode" is not the right way to go, especially given the 
      amount of work we have still going
      - Better to change the process (e.g., change voting rights to based-on-attendance, rather
        than based-on-membership dues) 
      - That would allow the engagement to "scale" down organically, rather than defining a 
        "maintenance mode" for the PWG

    - We still have a lot of work in the pipeline for the IPP WG
      - Normal IPP
      - IPP 3D
      - Existing work, new work, and errata in IPP draft charter (10/09/20)

    - Change granularity of the workgroups to be on a per-document or document set scope?
      - What about the officers?

    - Pushback on fine-grained workgroups
      - Too much process overhead

    - WG whitepaper -> WG project path has not been very successful
      - Some whitepapers languish
      - Some whitepapers are promptly adopted by WGs

    - Even more major new work beyond current documents
      - PWG Cybersecurity Framework?
        - Based on or extending the "PWG Hardcopy Device Security Guidelines"?

  - Nailing down the scope of Process 4.0
    - Smith feels like he is running in circles

    - How to make substantive progress on Process 4.0?

  - Create a PWG membership Poll?
    - Here's the PWG's or IPP WG's roadmap - what are you interested in?

    - Scope? Just IPP WG or all WG?

    - Add a survey / poll to PWG November F2F Plenary deck to present a list of candidate PWG 
      new work proposal names and see what is the most important?

  - Smith to get a list of future work items from WG officers to put into a poll 
    in the PWG November F2F Plenary deck?
    - This could inform the creation of the next charters

    - Use the results to send out to membership to collect offline responses?

    - Ira comments that this is NOT an appropriate Plenary topic (too broad and a time waster)

    - CUPS Filters v1.28.4 - released on 10/08/20
      - Bug fix release, mainly to solve CUPS performance problems caused by the IPP Fax support 
        of the "driverless" utility

      - Bug fix release for a quick, potential crasher correction in cups-browsed

  - OP GSoC (Google Season of Code) - complete on 09/08/20
    - 1 student dropped out in July (project continues in LFMP)

- "arc" is any single value (often least-significant) in an OID - Existing plain text PWG policy and registry for each PWG MIB base OID - IBM gave PWG a permanent arc for LDAP OIDs for Print Schema (RFC 7612)
- LDAP OIDs to be documented in a additional policy and registry in ".../process/"
ACTION: Smith/Mike/Ira/anybody to draft whitepaper on late binding for best fidelity in Cloud servers, intent vs. process for output fidelity, and the fundamental design ethos of the PWG's work
